‘Stealthing,’ New and Dangerous Sex Trend is Different Name of Rape (Video)

It’s a new and dangerous sex trend. Stealthing” is when a man secretly removes his condom during sex while their partner doesn’t know.

A recent report by the Columbia Journal of Gender and Law said the trend is on the rise.

The associate director of the Rape Advocacy, Counseling & Education Services in Urbana, Jaya Kolisetty said the act can be considered sexual assault because consent is not being given.

I was a victim of Stealthing

“Consenting to have sex with someone with a condom means that someone is giving consent to have sex with someone with a condom,” Kolisetty said. “It doesn’t mean that they’re giving someone consent across the board, consent can be removed at any time.”

Condoms are meant to protect against sexually transmitted infections and prevent pregnancy. Kolisetty said stealthing can not only lead to physical harm, but emotional harm too.

‘STEALTHING,’ THE DANGEROUS NEW SEX MOVE: WHY IS IT CONSIDERED RAPE?

“Nonconsensual sexual contact is something that can be traumatic to folks like most forms of sexual violence,” Kolisetty said. “It’s probably an intimate partner or someone they probably trust or might have a really strong relationship with.”

What’s still unclear is whether the recent trend can be treated as a crime, but the University of Illinois police department did say in part: “informed consent and mutual respect should be the basis for any sexual activity between people. Students always have the option to report any crime to us and particularly in cases of sexual assault, we will work with them on how they want an investigation to proceed.”

Kolisetty said it’s important to start the conversation on the harmful act.

‘Stealthing’ Is Just Rape by a Different Name

“There are a lot of different forms of sexual violence and all those different forms can definitely have an impact on people,” Kolisetty said. “It’s important that survivors of any of those forms of sexual violence know they’re not alone.”
